TERMITE AND PEST INSPECTIONS AND TREATMENTS
Termites: In Australia, one in four homes may experience termite infestations, which is why household insurance doesn’t cover termite damage. Imagine buying a new home only to discover termites shortly after moving in. We often find homes with concealed or poorly fixed damage, or where owners attempted DIY treatments. With over three years of termite inspection experience, we provide expert insights.
Borers: Borers are a significant issue in older homes, especially those with pine floors. They lay eggs in timber, remaining dormant for years before hatching. Larvae tunnel through the wood, creating a honeycomb effect that weakens its structure. Once mature, borer beetles chew their way out and restart the cycle. You may notice holes and sawdust under floorboards, but by then, the borers have left. Damage is often invisible until floors are sanded, or someone falls through.
Dry Rot: Dry rot, wet rot, or decay, it all results from moisture issues or using the wrong timber. It’s like timber cancer and can be as destructive as termites. Our reports always include decay inspections, and we provide advice on replacing affected timber, addressing the root cause, and preventing further damage.
Thermal Imaging Inspections
Thermal imaging cameras build up a picture of an object using the heat from within the object. In the pest control industry, this is useful as images of roof and wall cavities can be inspected without the need to damage the area being inspected.
Termites generate concentrated heat, while water and moisture leaks produce cooler areas. The thermal imaging camera builds an image based on the different temperatures, allowing us to pinpoint irregularities in a building.
Even the best camera is only as good as the person using it. Not only is our thermographer fully trained to use the equipment, he is also a licensed builder qualified to discuss not only termite issues, but also structural and building problems.
Asbestos Inspections
Asbestos has found its way into a wide range of construction materials over the years, and it’s estimated that about one in three homes constructed between 1945 and 1987 incorporates asbestos-containing products.
While asbestos is only visible under a microscope, we can gather samples from your site for testing. As a general guideline, if a material appears to be asbestos-like, it’s best to assume it contains asbestos. Even if it turns out not to contain asbestos, it may still contain other harmful substances that should not be inhaled.
Methamphetamine Inspections
In Australia, tens of thousands of properties are contaminated with chemicals associated with the use or production of methamphetamine, often referred to as ‘ICE.’
These chemicals can be absorbed through the skin as people go about their daily lives in a contaminated house, coming into contact with surfaces that contain residue. Unlike typical home defects, the chemical traces permeate walls, floors, carpets, countertops, cabinets, drawers, and every corner of the house. It’s invisible and odorless, but mere contact with these surfaces can lead to chemical absorption through the skin. We offer testing services and can coordinate decontamination as necessary.
